LAND TO WORKLESS

ITALY DEALS WITH PROBLEM. LONDON, September 24. The Italian Government is now put* ting into force the regulations in connection with the National Integral Laud Reclamation Plan, which provid* es for the dispossession of those landowners who refuse to contribute their share of expenses whe;i their land is to be reclaimed. In several cases owners have been dispossessed of the land in question, arid it is being parcelled < ut to unemployed men, a few acres to go to each one chosen,\ on condition that he does his share of reclamation labour and also tills the land. If he fails to fulfil these conditions he, will be, liable to lose the land, which will then lie handed over to another unemployed person. . ' The scheme not *only provides work for a certain • number of unemployed men, hut has induced .the hitherto indifferent owners to make an effort to find the wherewithal for their share of reclamation costs.
