FRENCH PACIFISM
A BIG DECREASE
IN ARMAMENTS FOR NEXT YEAR.

“War is a collective crime. How can one teach children the art of killing?” asked M. Heriot, in a. speecn on the eve of the League of Assembly. Recalling 'that the French ’; Budget for 1933 reduced the army by 327 officers and forty-three thousand’' ffieiil arid moreover, sixty-two divisions in " 1931 were cut to thirty in 1933, he declared that France had giyen proofs of constructive pacifism. He was glad that France was not the only country to emphasise German re-armament would be the prelude to a return to the world’s former follies.
“We have -another cause of anxiety, due to the agreement between German demands and the writings of an authoritative technician. These have given' indication that Germany is seeking to organise a powerful modern army designed far aggressoin,” he said. "France, but for her goodwill, might still be in possession of the Rhineland, which she returned to. Germany before the Treaty obligations had been retrieved, France had received no thanks for this. Also, despite the depression, they had opened the French markets to German goods, enabling Germany to have a favourable trade balance of twenty-eight millions.”
HITLER SPEAKS STRONGLY
AGAINST PAPEN GOVERNMENT.

The “Daily Mail's” correspondent at Berlin says: In a special interview Herr Hitler declared that the Von Papen Government was bound to collapse like a house of cards. He said: “It represents a little clique of reactionaries, and it has no hold on the nation. Germany has become an autocracy, with tjhe Ministers governing ukases as did Czarist Russia; but the German people are not unlettered Russian (peasants. . 'The Government cannot hope to maintain its power against the will of the people. If the Government- try to treat the people as the people were treated before the French Revolution, they will provoke a revolution, and possibly one more violent than the French Revolution.
HUGE ITALIAN MOBILISATION.
MUSSOLINI SAYS “INCREASE.”
LONDON, September 25. The “.Daily Herald” announces . that Signor Mussolini has called owe ftillllow two hundred thousand reservists to it mobilisation, beginning on October lit. " The 1 “Daily Herald’’ says ! “Interpreting the policy at present prevailing at the Disarmament Conference, Signor Mussolini believes that Italy’s army must be larger and of a higher standard of physical fitness. No limit is. announced for the duration of the mobilisation, but the announcement will be delivered when the examinations are complete.; The men will then be sent back home.
