N.Z. ALLIANCE MEETING. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) / WELLINGTON, September 22. At the first general meeting of the N.Z. Road Transport Ai'-liance, Mir S.. A. Gold'ingham (Palmerston North) was elected chairman. The objects of the Alliance are for the protection of ■commercial road transport iii New Zealand. Messrs T. W. Hercock (Napier), J. B. Cnllen '(Ashburton), A. ,S. Baiiy (Auckland), E. W. Harris (Kaikoura), S. A. Golclingham (Palmerston North), F. A. Hooker •{•New PJymOuth), and J, Fabling '(Wellington) ■ were appoint*, ed as a Council to control the’affairs' of the Alliance. H. J. Knight (Wellington) was appointed 'secretary and organiser. ■Mr J. S. Hunter (Commissioner of Transport) attended the meeting and congratulated those present on organ-, ’ ising as a national body, which could) 'be of real benefit in placing their /policy and views before the Govern---ment, and (in' many others wavs. He. .'stated the 'intention of ■circulating proposals for' the control of goods services as early as possible. The meeting decided; that a system of the control of goods services by, licensing be approved. \ The Council of the Alliance waited on th e Acting-Minister of Transport, 'Mr (Ransom, who assured the deputa'ition 1 that no action .wouldbe/taken to ■apply the provisions of the Transport Licensing /Apt to goods services tm.tilthe Alliance had. a full opportunity to •place its views before t‘he Government. ,’He promised' that the ’ Transport" Department would extend every facility to co-operate in th© problems with which the Industry was faced. ... ....
