REMAND ON THEFT CHARGE,, (Per Press Association- — Copyright.) t IOHRIISffIOHURCH, Sept. 22./ The sale of medals with an imitation 18 carat stamp on them was alleged against Norris BUaxall, aged 39, jeweller, of AVellington, when Le appeared before Mr E. D. Mosley, £his morning.
He was charged with obtaining a cheque for £4 7s 6d from G. H. Madden by false pretences, and was remanded until Tuesday. Bail of £2OO and two sureties of £IOO was allowed. The suppression of his name was refused.
PROBATION F'OR THEFT. AVAIROA, September 22. A waterside ' worker, 'William John. O’Connell, Laged 32, engaged as a winebman on the s.s. Piako in the roadstead yesterday, was admitted to probation for three years to-day for the theft of thirteen- pounds of butter from this ship’s cargo. The chief officer of the Piako found accused walking along the deck with the butter in a sugar bag.
MILITARY CAMPS TO BE HELD WELLINGTON, September 22..
Hon. J., G. Cobbe said to-day that military ciamp® for territorial units would be held throughout the Dominion during the coming summer. The camps would bo of six days’ duration, 'Afid. the, pay according to rank, being the same as iri the days of com puls oi y training. The. Minister of Justice also stated that be did not propose to issue the new list of appointments as Justices of the Peace during the present session. There were already approximately six. thousand.
