SOVIET OIL
LARGE PURCHASE BY CANADA. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) OTTAWA, September. 20. The deal •by which the Soviet will be shipping to Canada a huge cargo of oil, in return for products from the Canadian Aluminium Company, which has nmanged the transaction, is arousing such bitter opposition from the Canadian oil l interests that the Cabinet is likleily \to hold a special session to discuss the problem. ’ A' Soviet trick is alleged, in that one shipment of Russian oil, which was reported to be crude oil, proved, on its arrival at Montreal, to be virtually refined gasolene. The Aluminium. Company have secured their permission from the Pnetmier, Mr Bennett for the deal. It is reported that the Premier held that the Canadian companies were not playing fair with the public, and were using the heavy protective tariff to squeeze out independent companies and henna the permission for the Russian oil importations..
