He said the retail price.. of sugar, which was being reduced by one halfpenny per pound to fourpende per pound as from January Ist next, wodld save housewives a million pounds per year, and manufacturers approximately £300,000. There would also he an automatic reduction in the special contribution by the sugar industry of the fruit industry.
