official opening. GE.EYMOUTH, September 22. Tire inauguration of regular operations at tfne new liycj'ro generation system. of the-Grey Electric Power Board a,t Eftimata took place yesterday. The ceremony was carried ,oiit very successfully and onjoyahly, in the presence of ia> iln-ngo gathering of the public, the arrangement,s all being carried out very smoothly under the- direction of Mr Jus. R. Kent, Chairman, and the members and employees of the Board and quite a large number tra velled to the works by the special train, which left Gneymouth shortly after 1 p.m. The train -was originally a six. carriage one, but owing to the mimbef* of passengers, 320, two extra carriages had to !>e put oh. The train proceeded direct to the dam site, where the public were allowed oyer half an hour for an inspection of the- most impressive part of the scheme. They then returned to, Knimata, where the opening ceremony took, place; In addition to the train passengers, others travelled up l}y car, so that the number present at the ceremony Avon Id be. well over four hundred. The platform for the speakers was •erected beside the transformers, and tlle.distrfbs3ti.ng point for the current and a line of flags'hung overhead. The opening ceremony was performed by' Mir; J. B. Kent, Oh a inn an of the Board, and the speakers included Messrs J. Wi Greenslade, Gnvey (Inspecting Engineer, P.W. Rent.), Harknes<s (Mavqr pf Westport), Lnr’gs'faleHunt (Chairman of Springs-Fllesmere Power Boyrdl, Muloarp/ j: Murdoch (Mavor eif Ross),- ar d W. G McKay (contractor). ,
