Removal of a drum of benzine which had been left outside a milk-vendor’s gate'at Karori resulted in Harold Victor MulJaanie, fanner, aged 28, being charged with theft. He pleaded guilty and also admitted a further charge of stealing a half-pint of cream, before Mr E Page, S.M., in the Police Court on Fi-iday. DetectivenSergeant Revell said that the complainant was in the habit of leaving a. drum of benzine near his gate. This fact was known to accused, who, on tire morning of August 11, took the drum and gave it to, a man to whom he owed money. When interviewed hy the police he admitted the theft and said, that lie had also taken a half-pint of cream from a house tat Karori. His explanation was that he was hard up. He was a married man, and this was the first time he had been before the court.
The Magistrate: On the charge of stealing the drum of penzine he will be convicted and fined £5, and ordered
to make good the amount of the petrol. On -the other charge he will be convicted and discharged.
