ELUSIVE THIEF

For the last six weeks a thief who prefers whisky, wine, and cigarettes to jewellery ;arid plate .-has .been breaking into home's in Toorak and • South Yarra. From tone Ihome he stole whisky, brandy, liqueurs, arid cocktails, cigarettes and butter. ' From two . homes h e has taken money. He has been seen and chased on several occasions. One one occasion ho stole money from the [handbags of two elderly women in; their presence, after which he asked for a drink. One of the women fainted,Lso h© poured himself out a glass -of iwhit’ky, friom the '-sideboard and drank it before making a hurried exit through til* window by which he had. entered. ,
His victims include Sir Frank Clarke (President 'of the' Legislative Council) and Mr Rngsell Clarke, M.L.C. Residents, private - watchmen, and police all attempted to -Catch this .agile, elusive thief without sue* "ciass. ■' ', . . c '•' / :
