FIRE ON SHIP
FUMES OVERCOME FIGHTERS. six ;men taken to hospital. (Australian Press Association.) (Received + his day at 9.25 a m) ADELAIDE, September "21. A number of firemen wer e overcome by fumes while fighting a fire on the German freighter, Stassfurt, at Port Adelaide. , The fire wag apparently unde r control two hours after it was first noticed, hut Hater a more serious outbreak occurred, and late last night the firemen were still at work. Writhing and moaning in agony from pains caused by the smoke fumes, six firemen were removed to hospital, and a number of others who took their turn below the decks with hoses were brought up almost unconscious. The fire destroyed the ship’s provision room.
