CHRISTCHURCH, September 20. Under the will of Mrs James Mad-, dock, of Kaikoura, provision is made for a scholarship tenable at St. Patrick’s College (Wellington) or St. Bede’s GoV-ege (Christchurch), for a term of three years, to be open to all Catholig boys .resident between Waipapa Point and the Kahautara river. The scholarship is to be competed for every three years, and the papers ■will 'be set alternatively by the rectors of St. Patrick’s and St. Bede’s Colleges.
Bequests to charities amounting to £3OOO are contained in the will of Mrs Harriet Butt, formerly of Cheviot, who died in Christchurch last week. Mrs ißutt was aged 72 years, and was the widow of Mr Harry Butt, who died 12 years ago after a life spent in farming in the Cheviot district. She was particularly sympathetic ..towards orphans and disabled returned soldiers, and her will shows appreciation of the work of various bodies which undertake their relief.
