FARMERS’ PESTS
STOATS AND BUTTERFLIES. MA'STERTON, (September 17. Wairarapa farmers aro complaining of the ravages of stoats, which are report® to be in tho district in extraordinarily large numbers. The rodents have visited numerous 1 farm Muses and have made free with the poultry, and -in addition are slaughtering hundreds of •nestling binds—particularly Harks. One farmer in the Masterton district on splitting open .a hollow log on his property, found a stoat’s nest and the remains of no fewer than 60 ground larks. Another pest which, is making its appearance more early than usual this year is the' white butterfly. This pest, which caused so much damage last summer, is particularly evident i n the Bush district, and several specimens have been caught in the Wairarapa.
