AMAZING JOURNEY
THOUSAND MILES IN ROW-BOAT w . LONDON, August 24. , An amazing journey from Pavia (Italy) to London, in a frail racing boat, by fouij Italian , university ■. students and a coxswain, was practically •completed when they arrived at Westminster to-day, . The oarsmen left Pavia on the River Ticino, Italy, pn July 13, says-“ The Times,” and except for a short train jourhey: from Lausanne to Basle, they, rowed all the way by river and canal, even cessing the English Chapnel in their shell. .1
The: Italian Ambassador was at Westminster to meet the boat, which is named “Live Dangerously.” The crew were deeply bronzed and were attired in singlets and shorts. There are. on a holiday trip, carrying a message of greeting, from the rector of Pavia University to the rector of Oxford, where they will row later in ‘the week.
. Their route was up the. River Picino tq Lake Maggie re, thence by tn« Rhine to Lausanne. From there their craft was shipped overland to Basle, where, once, more afloat,- they crossed the Rhinb to Antwerp and along the Flemish canals to Ostend and Calais. From there they crossed the Channel to Dover.
! The rowers had fine weather throughout, but struck a shoppy patch near Dover, whence they came to London; by way of Ramsgate, Sheerness, arid Gravesend. f The distance travelled was about 1000 miles. • 1 ’ *' •"
