Gandhi appeared to be determined to (carry liis /starvation threat into operation. Replying to a telegram from G. Birla, a wealthy industrialist, Gandhi rejoices that the opportunity has come for offering “a final sacrifice for our downtrodden millions. I am quit e certain that my fast ca/nnot be postponed.” Hindu leaders here have telegraphed to the Viceroy seeking for permission to interview Gandhi at the Yeravada jail. Meanwifile, the Hindus are negotiating with the depressed classes on the question of .th 6 electorates, avd Doctoi Moorije, representing Hindu Orthodoxy, ha. s offered the Untouchables equal representation on tlie basis of joining electorates in order to avert the .latteis isolation from Hinduism.

Gandhi, replying to an appeal from Sir Tej Bahadun Sapu, Hindu Liberal leader, said: “I could not alter the decision taken in God’s name, but if God wills, my body will hold against the fast long enough for a ( settlement.” It is rumoured that Gandhi is to become the guest of a well-known local Indian woman sympathiser.
Leading Bombay Hindus have called on the Premier and Hindus of the depressed clashes, to avert a national crisis.
A campaign has started for the observation of a fast throughout India on Tuesday.
