County Council.—The Westland County Council at its meeting yesteiday decided to revert to the system of monthly .meeting in future, members generally agreeing that bi-monthly meetings' did not result : in. the expenses being reduced. ... Telephone - Communication. —A ; telephone office has been opened at Teiaho (O’Neill’s Dry Creek), The attendance at this office will be from 9 to 9.30 a.m., 1 to 2 p.m., and 4.30 to! 5 p.m. j V »• Borough Council. —The Hokitika Borough Council met yesterday aff-erj-noon. Present—The Mayor (11. -El Michel, Esq.), Messrs. Beare, Breeze, Coulson, MoGregor, McSherry, Mqcan drew. The Mayor said that the. meet, ing had been, called to enable members to, meet Mr Reakesi, Government veterinarian regarding the erection of abattoirs. Mr Reakes addressed the meeting at length, and said that if abattoirs were installed there should be a revenue of £550 to the Council each year. It was resolved/ to approach the department in regard to funds for the purpose of their erection.
Cricket.—The annual meeting of the Hokitika Cricket Club was held last vening When the following officers were elected:—President, Michel-; vice-presidents, Messrs, P. JDunne, W. E. Williams, W; Keller, J. F. White, A. D. Macfarlarie, E. H. Robinson, j D.r J. Evahs, J. J. Melnr tosh, R. Acheson, J. Mandl, G. J. Roberts, H. Jones, Drs Teichelmann and Macandrew, Revs J. G. W. Ellis and. H. S. Leach; captain, W. Sherman ; vice-captain, T. Carley; committee, G. Wilson, R. Ecclesfield, J. T. Mclntosh, W. Kerr, and R. Park:nson. A vote of thanks was accorded* Messrs W, Hall arid A Sargison "or trophies presented, .. Hockey.—The Reef ton hockey jun:ors have forfeited to Hokitika in •-.be game arranged for to-day at Greymouth. This leaves. .. the , Hokitika team champions with,, five .wins and two dr-atvs.
Arahura Dairy Factory.—The second annual meeting of the Arahura Dairy Company was held on Saturday when Mr B. Ward presided. Messrs B. Ward, W. A. Smith and J. Mcguigan were, re-electecll directors, and Mr H. Williams auditor.
Ross—At a meeting of parishioners of' St. Paul’? church, Ross, it wa-'-decided to endeavour to raise £SO at once to rebuild the vestry, and repai’’ the church. -Subscription lists nave been opened with Messrs T. W. Bruce, J Grimmond and :H. Osmers.
