PLANS OF A RHODES SCHOLAR. AUCKLAND, September 12. •“1 feel too deeply-rooted here to work elsewhere,” fcaid Dr E. E. Bailey one of the 1929 Rhodes Scholars, who returned this morning by the Mariposa. While at Oxford Dr Bailey took hie: doctorate in philosophy for a thesis on liability for torts, written under the ,direction of Dr W. Hodsworth, one of the foremost historians of law. When conditions became favourable, Dr Holdsworth has expressed his willingness to come out to the Dominion and lecture to the colleges in tlie Univer- . si'fcy of- New Zealand. At Oxfordj Dr Bailey was president of tho Raleigh Club, which was concerned with Imperial politics. There . were 36 under-graduate members in it and 12 senior members. The club exercised a definite influence on Imperial thought. He was president in the summer-time during which there was bald a dinner ht which the speakers included the Lord Chancellor, Lord Sankey, the Secretary of State for In- . dia, Sir Samuel Honre, and Mr Mali eolm MacDonald, Under-Secretary of , State for the Dominions. Dr Bailey also spoke on that occasion. Dr Bailey said he was glad in one way to be back. He intended taking ■ip law, with politics in the background.
