NEW TROUBLES FOR OLD
“W 6 want more imagination ar.-d initiative in the promotion of peace,” said Dr Helen Keller, in a . recent speech. “We should, have peace societies that do more than talk. We have pacts and we have conferences that spend all their time swapping o’d troubles for new ones, or scrap on v those armaments that will not be needed in the next war. Our greatest need ait present is a peace formula that means something. It must be short, a flash in the darkness ; it must have in it the spirit of the Commandment ‘Thou shaft not kill.’ We must work together in a world organisation for peace. Never was there such an end to strive for. The alternative is the most appalling catastrophe. mankind has ever faced. Women have a greater power to bring about peace than thev realise. We can not only teach our children th e ideals of peace, but we can refuse to take part in any war whatever.”
