SMALL POTATOES
DAMAGES AWARDED AUCKLAND, September 3. A few weeks ago complaints were ventilated in Auckland to the affect that consignments of potatoes received from the south contained an unreasonable quantity of dirt, i and were otherwise nsatis’actory. Perkins and Sons, produce auctioneers, issued an appeal against a garder’s certificate. They complained of the small size of the potatoes and of the cut tubers as well as of unreasonable quantities of dirt in sacks. ■ The case was investigated by the Appeal Board at a recent sitting, and judgment w'as in appellants’ f' lVo «ri damages being assessed at £6 8s Id, plus six guineas costs. The grader giving the certificate is called upon to pay three guineas and the .grower three guineas. The result of the appeal, which is unusual, will he of interest to g.adeis as well as growers . throughout the Dominion and should assist in placing the potato business on a better footing- ■
