AUCKLAND, September 5.
"There is a marked improvement iff the outlook for both Australia, and New Zealand in London, ai|d the public seems to hav e recovered confidence in the Dominions,” stated Major General Sir Granville Ryrie, who is returning to Australia on the “Niagara,” on the completion of his five-year term as High Commissioner in London, for Australia.
Particularly in the political sphere was a t .return of icofifidehce) continued Sir Granville. Australia had followed the example' of England in electing a sound National Government, and one which coincided almost exactly with th e new House of Commons, “I think the result is shown paticularly by the recovery in the value of borfils, some now being above.pax. On the whole, the British -.people are quite optimistic in regard.|fo the future.” Sir Granville said ihe attended the recent Reparation Conference at Lausanne, and he was very -gratified that an arrangement was com e to, although, for a iong time, there settled little';-Eopo of it. . >
He paid a tribute to the • untieing efforts of Mr Ramsay MacDonald* in bringing the negotiations to a success-, fuj issue, and'stressed the' tact and patience that Britain’s Prime.' Minister had displayed, although he was a sick man.”
