The floods, so far as northern Wairarapa is concerned, are now' over. Reports to hand show fairly large losses of sheep and entitle but not as great as was feared. Railway communication both north and ‘ south. is still) obstructed, mails arriving hours late. Th e north mail Was-picked up l.y motor bus at Eketahuna and brought to Carterton. South maifc were transhipped over Fernside washout and arrived at noon.

The flood waters still cover the lower valley to ' a great' depth, though the level is falling rapidly at Pukio and Pahiatua. Wairarapa lake is open to the sea and is rushing out in a vast, thrhid stream, but an enormous volume of water is runmhg into the lake from the flooded area, causing the fake level to rise, stop "banks checking the get away through the narrows. Conditions are still serious in lower parts. A ♦ The present flood equals the record of 1928. Road traffic from Wellington and Manawatu i. s proceeding as usual the slip being cleared. Ma sterton - flood waters are rapidly receding, the weather being fine today and nb further damage is reported though heavy losses of stock are feared to be discovered in the outlying districts when the water was cleared off the land.
