CONTINUATION OF EVIDENCE
MR GOSLING AT WITNESS

-At the Mechanical Hare Inquiry today, Mr Mark Gosling, who was Chief ■Secretary in the Lang Administration, gate evidence that he knew Swindell, | but he had not been frequently in his company. It would not be correct to say.; that* Swindell ‘‘was continually on his . doorstep.’’ The re-introduction of the' tin hare racing .by the Lang Government was purely a. revenu e move. 'Witness stated that he had allowed the Secretary of his Department to advise him on the administration of the Gan? ing Laws, and when any applications dor permits for coursing ca.me before him, he always brought them before tire Cabinet, and to a large extent* • If*o wap, guided by his ciiiceib. When. a*sked whether he knew that raining under the permit system was illegal, witness replied: “That is a matter of opinion.” The Royal Commissioner interjected : ■“lt is not. It is a matter of law.” Witness added that he accepted any responsibility for what had been done. The hearing was adjourned.
