CHEAP LABOUR
IN THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION

In her Foreign Legion, France has a cheap and efficient labour force, and a? the native tribes are particularly peace-' iful at the present time the Legionnaires are engaged on work along the railway lines in Algeria. . Unomplojment in every country - has t; suited in large numbers enrolling in the. Legion so that its numerical strength is now greater, perhaps, 'than at any time in its history.
Most trades and professions .are represented and many of the .recent recruits aye skilled mechanics who will ifind their wiav into the engineering and pioneer companies of the Legion. These companies were formed in 1922 chiefly for work on railway construction in North Africa, and are expected to begin building the Traiis-Sahai-ian railway when the project is definitely decided upon in Paris.
