CHARLIE CHAPLIN
HIS CHILDREN AND THE MOVIES. LATE WIFE’S ACTION OPPOSED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LOS ANGELES, August 27. Charles Chaplin, the film actor, appeared at the Supreme Court -to-day, asked that his divorced wife, Mrs Lita Grey Chaplin, should be restrained from presenting his sons. Charles and Sydney, aged seven and six years, in moving pictures. It developed that Mrs Chaplin has contracted to have the two hoys appear in a series of films, she receiving thirty-six thousand dollars (of which the boys received twenty thousand) for each.
Chaplin said: ‘‘lt is the spiritual aspect of the tiling. I believe that the children should be permitted to grow up normally. I see, no reason why they should be compelled to choose their profession at this young age. I think that they will suffer from undue publicity. -I will consent if they want to when they arc older.” It was revealed that 200,000 dollars had been settled on them at tho time of the divorce between Chaplin and his wife, and that, under an agreement with Mrs Grey Chaplin, they cannot be ‘‘Hired out or employed” without the written consent of both parents.
