OYSTER TRADE

NEW ZEALAND AND ENGLAND

LONDON REPORT NOT LAST WORD

(Per Press Association — Copyright.)

INVERCARGIL, August 26.

A cab’jo yesterday from London stated that an analyst’s report on the trial shipment of Foveaux Strait oysters packed in ice, consigned to Sir T. M. Wilford, stated they they were unfit for human consumption.

Commenting on the l cablegram, regarding the local shipment of frozen oysters to London, the' Chairmank ,bf Directors of the Stewart Island Fresh Oyster Coy., states that he was still convinced that shipments could be successfully sent Home. One factor militating against the success of jtbe trial shipment was that the oysters were carried in frigid air on deck, and not in the ship’s hold. He mentioned that oysters had been kept in frigid air at Invercargill at the same temperature as those carried on the ship, and, when tested on August 12th, more than seven weeks after freezing they proved; wholesome and palatable.
