Notices terminating their engagement were served this afternoon on one hundred and fortytsix ipiners in the Huntly district. These notices are to take effect in a. fortnight’s, time, . , t The men . concerned are employeesat . Rotowaro and the Macdonald and Glen. Afton mines. - t i j Seventy of the men at the first-named , mine have received notices of dismissal. ' At the Macdonald and Glen Afton ; mines seventy-six men are befhg dumissed,' . ■ 1 ' ■ Bo far no action has been taken, at the Pukemiro mine or the Renown mine, but it is expected .that the hands ah those mines will he, reduced, later. The reduction in, hands, are due to a falling off in the orders for - coal that has been experienced, by the, companies operating in the area. For a period the mines have been working short time.
