COAL TROUBLE
NORTHERN MINES MAY CLOSE

AUCKLAND, August 25
The Waro mine, at Hikurangi which is being worked by a co-operative party may have to cease operations. A meeting regarding the matter was held at Auckland, of Messrs H. M. Rushworth, R. Semple and W. E. Parr, M’s.P., and representatives of the Hikurangi Town Board, Waro Co-operative Collieries, Hikurangi Coal Coy., Wilson’s (N.Z.) Portland Cement Limited.
It was pointed out that the party is urgently in need of assistance, and thus .meeting decided to send a deputations -to Wellington next week, to place the facts--regarding the situation on the HikhtAngi cloalfield before the Governtlie Unemployment Board.
STOCKTON DECLINES TERMS
WESTPORT, August 25
The Stockton miners, along with these of Deiiniston, have decided not to accept the terms proposed for a new agreement, and the mine remains idle.
