LANCASHIRE COTTON DISPUTE.

RUGBY, August 24.
The Deputy-Lord Mayor of Manchester stated to-day that certain misun-, der,standings in the Lancashire cotton dispute had, been- removed, making possible negotiations between the employers and men at a conference tomorrow. He added that the position was hopeful, and he trusted that a settlement would be reached shortly.

WINNIPEG, August 24
A shortage of several hundred thousand dollars in the trdst funds of the University of Manitoba,/has been revealed by Government audit. The irregularities are stated to extend over several years. The examination is continuing.
