iMedicaJ .evidence was called this morning which went into gruesome details'of the results of the post mortem examination of deceased’s body.
Dr Smythe said the deceased ha<J been dead for at least six hours' when the body was seen by him. From hi, examination of the _wouiids he was of the opinion that deceased was struck a violent blow from behind, with sPine blunt instrument, used by a left handed person. The throat was then cut, while deceased was lying unconscious on the floor.
Dr Lynch, a patho.'og’st, detailed the results of his examination of the’- body after exhumation. .-.Deceased had been practically decapitated. Witness was of the opinion that, the wounds were inflicted with a sharp axe. ' Great violence must 'have bdeji. "iifod. A neighbour, All's Pratt, deposed to noticing, burning rags and other rubbish in Tarrant’s washhouse, on the morning- of November 4. Other evidence to noon concerned the tracing of notes of £lO and £?0 denomination, cashed by the accused.
