ACCUSED AND RENT ARREARS.

BLENHEIM, August 24.
At the Flood murder trial to-day -several witnesses were called by the prosecution in rebuttal of statements there were made by the accused to the poliqe. as to his (Tarrant’s) whereabouts on the night of' the alleged murder.: ft':-
Corroborative evidence was also given as to the finding of the body and as to its position. v ; , The prosecution adduced voluminous evidence tending to show that subsequent to the murder, the accused had paid debts that were owed by him more freely than before. / - Jabez Blizzard, agent for the ownner of the house which the accused occupied, said that he had pushed the accused for arrears of rent that were, owing'. The accused did not pay when he promised on November 2, the accused said that he wouWf endeavour to get the money. Next day, on November 4, he paid £2l in notes, atid he promised to pay the balance in instalments'every month.' • Tbd- evening sitting WM':,taken>iip with the trailing of notes that were alleged to have been changed with business firms by the accused, some of the notes being stained * with what looked like rust, and bearing greasy marks. .• \ . ..
