FARMERS’ UNION MEETS
PALMERSTON N., August 23
Five resolutions passed-by the Opiki (branch of the Dairy Farmers’ Union ‘were considered at yesterday’s meeting of the executive of the Union in Palmerston North. ,
“That an emphatic protest be made against the Government’s delay in taking the necesary steps 'to- distribute the Dominion’s diminished income equitably through the only two just channels available—wages and interest,’’ was the first-resolution considered, and with the words “particularly interest charges” added was passed. , The following resolution iwas carried: “That the Government be asked tdrthk.e immediate steps to allow industry, ability and thrift to function by securing to each a fair and reasonable reward in proportion to their worth, and Mot in proportion to needs.” Mr H. Seifert said that' under the existing conditions the producer was not securing a fair share for his efforts. The following resolutions were also caijried“That restrictive, legislation of .every description should be removed whatever possible, except where health pr safety is involved,” and,“that sec.-, tional interest be prevented from getting through threats, strike, monopoly, or- advantageous conditions, rewards out of. all proportion to their worth.” Mr H. Seifert said it was time action was taken' to prevent the public being exploO#'-by rings and combines. A resolution' that the Government and local bodies should cease borrowing or employing labour - except for the direct needs,for except where the - fujl rates of, (interest' niid' sinking fund could bef paj'iied; lapsed through, want of p ’ ' ’ . . A remit 'from the Kopane branch that the Dairy Farmers’ Union should investigate thd possibilities of apply-, ing the Australian Eattprjson, schenip, for butter to the Dominion pork inxlustrv was carried. ...
