SEASONAL WORKERS
not debarred from relief.
(Per Press Associations Copyright.)
CHRISTCHURCH, August 23.
Seasonal workers are not necessarily debarred from employment on /relief works, and their cases can. be dealt with on their merits, according to a telegram received from the Unemployment Board by the Citizens’ Unemployment Relief Committee.
The telegram was received at the meeting of the committee yesterday. It stated that Seasonal workers were not necessarily debarred from employment on relief works; but it must be recognised that many of those men received comparatively high rates of pay during the season, and consequently were in a position less difficult than those who had only relief works to depend on. For that reason each seasonal worker’s application should be investigated and dealt with on its merits.
