CLERK APPOINTED

INVERCARGILL, August 23.

A special meeting of the Invercargill City Council was held this afternoon to receive the .resignation of the town clerk (Mr C. L. Grange)) who' has been appointed 'Commissioner ,of Thames. The chairman of the finance committee, Mr 11. J. Mac Abater, who moved that the “resignation be accepted -with regret, • said that, having been in close touch with Mr Grange for ti'rree and a-half years, 'he knew how much he had meant to. Invercargill. Ho was a town clerk who had made a profession of his job, and had marked executive ability and sound' common sense. Those qualities, combined with high efficiency, had made him'-a tower of strength in 'lnvercargill. Mr Grange .had saved the city his salary ov'er and over again; It was not ‘ exaggerating to -say he had saved thousands.
