The Victorian women beat those of New South Wales by three to two to-, day in the golf tourney. , McMahon was again impressive, scoring a dashing seventy and gaining par, figures except at the third and tenth holes. Nettlefold’s putting was dazzling. ' Bet'tington was intermittently bright. Winser was sterling and solid, and deposed Whiton at the fortieth hole. Whitton at the twelfth holed a 160 yards - shot," : • In the quarter final for the professionals, McMahon beat Carry ten, and eight,; Naismith beat T. Howard threie and two; Richardson beat Harvey one up; McLachlan beat Fowler two up.
In the amateurs Nettlefold beat Sloan Morpeth seven and six; Bettington beat Hattersley four and three; Winser beat Whitton at the fortieth hole. The Tolhurst sisters in a sparkling foursome beat Misses Britten-Joncs and Kath Riymill 85-100.
TOURNAMENT AT ROTORUA. ROTORtfA, August 23. The annual open championship tournament ofl the Rotorua Golf Club opened at Arikikapakapa links to-day. Over ninety golfers from all parts of the North Island ore participating, the entries being in excess, of last year. The conditions for the qualifying round was rendered difficult by a choppy wind, and generally mediocre scores were returned.
