Guilty on' all counts, with a strong recommendation ito mercy,- was the} verdict in the Supreme Court to-day at the conclusion of the trial of William Edmond ißeesby and Thomas Clarke Reesby, on seven charges under the Bankruptcy Act of incurring debts totalling ’£lo4o without reasonable prospects of paying them, as well as their other debts, and one charge of failing to keep proper books for the butchery business they carried on. Sentence was deferred.

SEXUAL OFFENDER. : GISBORNE, August .17. Ait the'(Supreme Court to-day, before Justice Ostler, James Perry, aged SO years; was found guilty of carnal knowledge of a girl under 16 years of age. Sentence was deferred until to-morrow.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE. . ROTORUA, August 17. ■ln the early hours of Wednesday morning, a four-roomed bungalow in Sophia Street, owned by A. J. Brown, of Rotorua, was completely gutted by fire. The house was unoccupied at the time, and the furniture had been removed. The cause of the outbreak is unknown, ( but the circumstances are such that the police are carrying out close investigations. There is an insurance cover of £6OO on the building.
