A FAMOUS ABBEY

ITS EIGHTH CENTENARY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, August 15. The eight hundredth anniversary of the foundation of Fountains Abbey, near Ripon, Yorkshire, was celebrated yesterday, when there was a congregation of 6000. These included the Duke and Duchess of York. The congregation attended a service of joint religious denominations, in the Abbey. The Bishop of Ripon said: “To tire England of the Twelfth Century—a century of great Abbey builders—a new inspiration and a unity and sense of freedom came on the wings of a widespread spiritual revival. So may it be in the England of the Twentieth Century.”'
