ALARM EXPRESSED
FATE OF “B” RADIO STATIONS. DEPUTATION TO MINISTER.' WELLINGt6' t . August 16. A large deputation to-day waited! •on the Postmaster-Generai in reference* to the conditions under which the B Radio Stations are to be permitted to broadcast sponsored programmes. Alarm was expressed that some oE the stations would be forced off the . air by the ruling now announced that* ( only one sponsored programme should be given in any evening. Hitherto one sponsored programme and one talk w'etre permittod.
The Minister said , that he did not wish to see any stations closing down, but some control was obviously essential and the question was where to stop. The Broadcasting Board . had adopted the policy that a coverage had to be given before any duplication of service was to be entertained. The. problem was to find the right balance* between too much and too little freedom.
Mr Hamilton added that he would consider the deputation’s representations. .
