ASHBURTON COMPLAINT ASHBURTON, August 8. The. Ashburton Hospital Roard decided to-dqy to obtain a jist. of the'hospital boards' ;in New /'Zealand which had made the Second cut in salaries, and the amounts paid in salaries. This action followed on a complaint concerning the alleged , lack of uniformity in the applications of salary reductions. The chairman (Mr W. G. Gallagher) said Ashburton had fallen in with the wishes of the Health Department, but other Jjoards had not. At the con--forence of hospital boards it was resolved that all boards be asked to make a uniform cut. but there had- been no uniformity. It was most unfair ,to the employees who had suffered a second cut while in other cases only one had .been _made.- In .the...cases of Auckland. /Christchurch, Wellington, and Timafu rthe boards had- not made the second out as requested by the Government, which had been very weak in that it had left tlie boards to make their own economies when' it should have taken a direct lead in the matter.

Mr Gallagher said the mutter affected the ratepayers in that the subsidy was reduced and in -the case of ofher boards it • was made up out of the consolidated revenue.

It was agreed on the motion of Mr Hardy to obtain a list of the boards in‘ New Zealand which, had made the second cut and the amounts paid in salaries;
