The pupils of the Westland Aero Club speak very, highly of the careful training received from their instruct tor, Flying-Officer Mathieson. The standard of teaching can be gauged from the fact that Mr Mathieson is one of the very few’ in Australasia who can fly a Helicopter machine, and in addition to holding the, highest credentials, possesses a glider’s certificate, of which,- at present, there are only about throe in tbe southern hemisphere. It is gratifying to all concerned to note the progress made by the four pupils trained by Mr Mathieson, all now flying solo. A very creditable performance was put up by one of the young pilots (H. T. Parry) l?st Sunday when he flow over Rcss in the morning, and during the afternoon travelled as far north as the .Ten, Mile Bluff past Greymoiith,' returning, over Dunoltie, Runanga and Coal Creek. Both flights were taken alone. The Club has been very fortunate and the nupils are not lax in their appreciation of either their pilot-officer ~o& Mr Nancekivell, who in placing his mnehirie at the disposal' of the Club, made ii possible for training accomplishment.
