INTERESTING EVIDENCE. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, August 4. At the .mechanical ' lhare * inquiry, James McCarthy, bank clerk, told the Royal Commissioner of his attempt to ®ecur. e a for grey- , hound racing at Wagga. Swindell adI. vised him to form a company of five thousand shares, to which he agreed. He (Swindell) also asked for , a thousand shares for himself. Witness had composed an application for a, license Swindell was added to it, and a letter was, typed in Swindell’s office. Swindell ' repeated (his request for one. thousand shares. : Witness, however, told Swindell that he “would ‘hot give hint a thousand carraway seeds.” Witness said that he had no' intention of starting : dog radijig. He merely .wanted, to sell land for . that purpose. Swindell had led him to believe he was /getting shares .from, country courses, . whidh had : got tin hare , licenses. . ; John Hurley, who a grazier in the Wagga district, gave,.evidence that he accompanied Mr McCarthy, when he Visited’ Swindell, who “wanted onefc. thousand pounds or one thousand shares to ensure the issue of a tin "hare license. Witness would have nothing to do with it. He said: “I cleared out, leaving McCarthy with him.” The hearing was adjourned.
