WHILE BLASTING ROCK. ACCIDENT ON RELIEF JOB. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) AUCKLAND, August 3. Several relief workers were injured, one fairly seriously, by/ a shower of, 1 rocks and debris which, as the result of a too-powerfuj blasting charge,. was thrown fqrtaver 100 yards to where a band of men, weip just leaving for. home at the conclusion of their day’s work at Western Springs, where levelling operations are being conducted. Over a dozen men, some on foot, and seme cycling, were proceeding along the Great North Road, a considerable distance from where the blasting operations had been previously -conducted, during the day, when suddenly there was a terrific explosion, * and the men saw that a charge had been fired about 100 yards or more away. Suddenly the men found themselves surrounded by a hail of falling rocks. Richard Lanigan, aged 28/ of Point Chevalier Road, who was riding a bicycle., was struck by a boulder measurr ing nearly a f°ot across which crashed down on to the front of his machine, almost across the handlebars. Both of his hands, were severely injured, the thumb of the left hand .being .broken. The front wdieel of his bicycle, .was completely
