PLANE MAKES FORCED LANDING SNOWSTORM IN CHRISTCHURCH. (Australian Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 3. Unable to find the Wigram Aerodrome in a snowstorm this morning, W. E. Clark,, the ground engineer, and assistant pildt to New Zealand Airways, Ltd., was’ compelled to make a forced landing with a three-seater Spartan aeroplane on the Addington Trotting grounds. He made a perfect landing. His passengers ■ were Miss Esther James, who recently finished her walking tour of New Zealand, advertising Dominion-made-goods, and Mr H. M. Mac Kay, the managing director of New Zealand Airways, The party set out for Timaru at 10.30 a.m. in brilliant sunshine. They ran into snow at Rakaia. They arrived over when snow was falling there heavily, and the visibility was very had. Clark was quite unable to see the aerodrome, although he actually passed over it. flying low over the hangers. The snow fell for half an hour only, and the weather then cleared.
