DARWIN, July 29. An earthquake 'shock was felt at D„arwin at 6.45 a.m. to-day. There was no damage but buildings were severely shaken. • FAILURE TO PARADE. ‘ I CHRISTCHURCH, July 29. The first case of a man failing to attend drill .parades called • by the Canterbury®'Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve whs heal'd to-day. when the Magistrate, Mr E. D. Mosley, after hearing the evidence, adjourned the further hearing for three months to enable the defendant, William Leg,n.ard Gobbe, to prove he was willing to abide by his contract. The .prosecuting Potty Officer said that when the men made a contract to join tils division, they were issued with a kit and equipment valued at £lO. It was a serious matter to default from parades, as the money ispent on the kit was practically wasted. Tho Magistrate pointed out that; the defendant was liable to three months imprisonment, or a fine of £2O. GUILTY OF BURGLARY. WANGANUI, July 29. At the preliminary hearing of a number of burglary oh argils in W angaimi extending from January amd December Inst, Herbert Yivian Walkingbou Bruttery, and Victor Robert Wall ' labourers pleaded guilty to yev-ea-al charges and were committed foi sentence. Thomas Butler, a fanner, admitted two charges and was also committed. Ward and Butler wero allowed bail.
