SUGAR AGREEMENT
CONFERENCE AT BRISBANE

BRISBANE, July 28.
At a conference called to disowns ; the sugar agreement 'Senator MeLachlao, on behalf of thia Federal Government, appealed for a reduotion ■in the domestic price of sugar. He 1 S aid that the Commonwealth Government was in no sense hostile to the Australian sugar industry.
The Premier (Mr Forgan Smith),, of Queensland, made it plain that so far as the Queensland Government was concerned, as one party to the contract, the agreement would stand. It seemed extraordinary to him that, whereas the Ottawa Conference was considering raising price levels, they should he having a conference at which they were asked to ttidudet price levels. His Government took the view that the agreement which wais'entered into after a complete exhaustive inquiry should be honoured by both Governments in its entirety, and that fiMe conditions of thm industry shouud not in any way be disturbed.
