N.Z. BROADCASTING BOARD. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) WELLINGTON, July 26. Mr H. D. Vickery, Chairman of the New Zealand Broacasting Board, stated, to-day, that the report furnished by the Coverage Commission was carefully considered by the Advisory Council' and the Board. The latter would -immediately sot about, carrying out the first of the Commission’s proposals. The installation of a hundred watt standby* transmitter at 2VA would be proceeded' with as soon as the apparatus could be obtained. No time would be lost in procuring the apparatus necessary for testing out the sites proposed for the..new transmitting stations at Christchurch, Dunedin and Auckland.

The agreement between the Boa’d and the Government in respect to payment for the assets of the Radio Broadcasting Company is .not jet completed, but the conditions and terms of payment are practically settled, and were quite reasonable from the Board’s point of view. ...

‘fit is proposed also,” Mr Vickery said, “to increase the transmitting hours'at 1, 3 and 4YA„ to bring those stations into line with 2YA. The threp stations named shbtllcl all he observing extended hours witliin two months’ time.” ;'rr- 4

The Board decided to assist a number of “B” stntioiis financially, and where practicable, by providing relays. Already action has been’taken in regard to. stations 2YB’ New Plymouth, 4&P Invercargill, 2ZH Palmerston Nortli, 3ZR Grey month, and IZH Hamilton. Negotiations Were proceeding in the case of Maserton, and the Board was looking into the claims of other stations in localities ill-served by. the national stations. It was definitely decided' that no financial assistance be given to B tstations in the four main centx - es, not because the Board lacked appreciation of the service gendered by some of these stations, but because the first duty was to endeavouy.to afford service:, to licensees in places where poor, reception from YA stations was obtained. Mr Vickery announced that Mr A. Gibbs had been appointed advisory engineer to the' Board.
