After nine hours’ instruction, Father {McKay, one of the pupil members of the Westland Aero Club, made his first solo flight on Saturday, and executed two beautiful landings. Other members are progressing favourably and will soon be undertaking solo work.

The funerail of the late Mrs Mary Warren took place, on Friday and wag very largely attended, old friends coming from many parts of the district to pay their last tribute, of naspeet. Requiem Mass was .celebrated by 'Reverend F" I-her McKay. Rev! Father Finerly officiated at the graveside, assisted by Revs. Fathers Collins .(St. Gerards, Wellington) and Whelan '(Westport).

A .splendid spell of weather is being experienced in .South Westland, and as a result there is a, good showing on the road works. In the section between Waiho and Weheka, wher e some forty men are employed, great advance has been made with the road improvements wh’ch are being carried Out by the Public Works Department. The ro”d throughout is in very good order, while the elimination of the open-crossings <\ave' reduced considerably the travelling time between the two centres mentioned.
