CHRISTCHURCH, July 22. “I am asked to believe that a Sergeant of Police, with years of experience, went into* a house at the invitation of Wilson and deliberately struck him. I don’t- believe it. Neither do I believe the evidence for the defence.” In these words Magistrate Mosley summed up after hearing the evidence of Desmond A. Wilson, 33, a labourer, charged with assaulting Sergeant F. 0. Harrison, and obstructing Constable Ricketts. Wilson was .sentenced to three montjis’ hard Labour. The police gave evidence that they Went to a house in Kilmore Street to serve a warrant on another man, and were met aggressively by Wilson, who afterwards struck the Sergeant.
