Mr George Duggan, Inspector of Mines at Dunedin, has been appointed to the position of Inspecting Engineer of Mines, and Chief Inspector of (,'oal Mines in succession to the late Mr J 1 .A. C. Bavhe.
Mr James O’Brien M.P., has received ’the following reply to representations made—“ Prior to his departure for the Ottawa Conference my colleague handed me the papers in connection with your 'application for oarch authorisation of a grant of £560, £2 for £l,' appearing on last year’s Estimates for the construction of Pete"sen’s Road, Haribnri. I have gone into this question and in view of the j fact that the settlors On this rpad l have been without access for a long time, pending the settlement of a dispute between the interested parties arrangements have now been made to authorise the necessary fund?, so, that the work may be carried out without any further delay. Authority in the sum of £560 on a £2 for £1 basis, is being issued to the County Council forthwith—Yours faithfully, Chas. E. Macmillan, Acting-Minister of Public Works.” •
