The annual social of the Hokitika branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Ais-' socia'cion takes place in the Soldiers , Hall to-morrow e toning at 8 o’clock.' The death occurred at the Grey River Hospital yesterday, of Mr Frederick Lewie Nyberg, of Ngahere. Deceased, who as in his sixty-third year, was & native of Sweden..' He arriyed in New' Zealand in 1889, and aftei carrying on the occupation of a coal miner at later moved to Ngahere, where he tfas engaged as a sawmiller. He is survived by his widow, one son, Victor, of Ngahere and three daughters, two being mai> ried, and Phillis, residing at home.
Before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., at the Greymouth Magistrate’s Court, yesterday moaning, Charles' William Home, aged about 32 years, described as a salesman, was charged with tile theft at Greymouth on July ,18,. 1932, of £2 11s lid, in money, two shirts, two collars, four handkerchiefs, and one tie, of a totafli value of £4/0/3, the property of James Leslie Guy. Detective H. C. Murcli, in asking for a remand until July 25, said that the articles had been stolen from a room -at the Union Hotel, and that accused had been arrested at Hokitika the previous day. The remand was granted, bait being aT.owed in self £lO and one surety of £lO.

With the good weather ' prevailing there is every prospect of an. early rur» of whitebait in the local river Wile fishermen w'll have their nets retidy in case of emergency. There was a large attendance, and tlie : arrangements by the Committee for'the entertainment of patrons were enjoyed to full degree. A feature of the evening was the bounteous supper provided. Music was provided j).v .the New Gaiety Orchestra, extras being played by Misses A. Lynn, Jacobs, and Messrs A. H. Lawn and H. de Castro. The winners of the statue dance were Mrs F. Breeze and Mr N. Karnbaeh, while the lucky spot dance was won by Miss Toker and partner.
