LORD BELDISLOIE’S SPEECH
M.P.’S REMARK. ‘
AUCKLAND, July 18. 1 During a meeting held at the Town Hall to discuss the unemployed boy problem, the 1 Governor-General,. Lord Bledislob, in the. course, of his remarks, said that he did not agree with the idea that the Government should find a considerable sum of public money, a.v the bigger the public debt became tho more it would, in the long run, burden the very youths they were now trying to help.
Mr W. E. Parry, Labour M.P for Auckland Central, interjected with a remark that it would be better to give young people a good healthy constitution now rather than worry about their future burdens.
His Excellency asked what’the interjector had said, and Mr Parry told him His Excellency then put down his notes and said that if the interjections continued he would have to retire and leave them to find the solution in their own way. Occupying the position ho did, he could not continue if there were to be interjections. .
The Mayor (Mr Hutchison) said that there must be no more interjectng. Mr Parry and two other M.P.’s were present without an invitation.
After a moment’s silence, his Excellency resumed his remarks. Later in the meeting Mr J. A. Lee (Labour M.P. for Grey Lynn) was refused permission to join in the general discussion, the Mayor saying that no M.P.’s bad been asked, as it was thought desirable to avoid politics.
