TRANSFER OF TEACHER. ■I , ■ ■ : DECISION OF GREY COMMITTEE GRE* MOUTH, July 12. -•/ Instx'uctions tb ignore the order of the : Canterbury Education Board, were issued to the headmaster of the Grey Main School at a committee meeting last week, following a visit lii'om a deputation of . Blaketown residents. , ’v|;o ■} . The deputation consisted of Messrs . F. E. Stent, G. Ellery, C. Burr and V. Barton, who waited on the committee to protest against the transfer * last Tuesday' of the children of Standard 11 in the Blake town' School to ‘the* Main School. the headmaster (M;* J. Graham) said that he had been ordered by the board to send one of the teachers from the Main School to Blaketown, but, as Blaketown had not a. large enough’ average attendance to keep a third teacher, he hesitated to carry out ; the. order. If he sent the teacher to Blaketown it woulld mean that at the end of the term she 1 would be dismissed owing to insufficient average at-; tendance, and there would be no chance to having her reappointed to the Main School/ He referred thematter to the inspector,' Mr S. J. Irwin, who said that the only thingto do, in order to save the -teacher, ■was to transfer the pupils of Standard /II at Blaketown to the Mein School.'; He saw the chairman and some member,! of the committee, and then or J deredthe transfer which was necessary to -be made immediately,; becausehe had to send to the* board the classic fiention schedule. - « ’■s}
INSTRUCTIONS, TO HEADMASTER
The. transfer, however, did not’meet with the approval of all the committee, who after discussing the position at length upheld the request of -the deputation -arid decided- ■ that the second standard 'at the Blaketown School; should (continue there- until some ’ scheme other than the ‘ transfer was devised. Mr -Stent, on - behalf of the deputation; said that the committee f could, rely on the utmost assistance from the' Blaketown people in their’ efforts to get" an'extra-teacher. ; y/v YVhen the deputation had withdrawn Mr Graham said there was no chance of getting another t'eficher." The only thing that could be done w-as to transfer a teacher' from' the - "Main School. He had his orders and would have to carry' thorn out. . , 'Amotion, however, moved by Mr H.
